Hi, Been a bit late with more work, but here is my blog for Week 17 MindLab! Week 17: Reflective Practise for Rose Tavelia When I think of reflective practice, I cringe at the thought of how I was in my early years as a teacher. I wrote so much information on weekly planning that I am sure I could have published a reflections novel based on the all the anecdotal notes I wrote for myself.    Through time and experience I learned to tweak that area of learning and began to manage my time more efficiently at school. Week 29 Professional Online Social Networks I have chosen Jay and Johnson’s (2002) reflective model for my blog this week. Descriptive: This year has been the year where I have stepped out of my comfort zone and reflected more openly about my practise.   Expressing my opinion in a public forum with fellow educators has been a daunting experince for an introvert such as myself.   I am not a fan of posting personal   blogs, nor am I one to post much on Facebook. However, I am an avid follower on instagram and enjoy reading twitter commentary on a daily basis. Educational mediums like Ted Talks, LinkedIn and Facebook pages has allowed me to expand my Professional Learning Network (PLN) and my ability to communicate on different levels with indiviuals both locally and abroad. Week 31 Blog

I will be using Rolfe’s model of reflection for this blog. The one thing I love most about teaching…are our children.   I grew up in South Auckland and was taught predominantly by Pakeha teachers.   What made these teachers exceptional was their ability to bring out the best qualities in each of us students.   Past pupils would often reflect on the best years growing up and attending East Tamaki Primary School! What? Our school is currently evolving under new management. The one area I think we are doing well is the school vision, mission and core values.   Teachers have been given agency over the changes and this process has been clear, open and transparent too.   Our whanau were given the opportunity to share their views and contribute to the new changes in our school.   Together with our communities we have made great progress to building a better learning community for our students.
